Danny "Chocolate" Myers (aka Gasman Choc) is one of the most popular crew members in the world of stock car racing. Chocolate was the famed gas man for the #3 GM Goodwrench Chevy driven by Dale Earnhardt. For the past 18 years Chocolate and team owner Richard Childress have visited victory lane no less than 83 times. You've also seen Chocolate Myers color-commentating on ESPN2, appearing in countless television commercials, as well as acting in movies, such as the "Smokey and the Bandit" series.
A native of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Chocolate is the eldest son of the late Bobby Myers, a pioneer of NASCAR, killed while driving in the Southern 500 at Darlington in 1957 for car owner Lee Petty, Richard Petty's father. Each year in New York City at the NASCAR Winston Cup Banquet, held at the Waldorf-Astoria hotel, NASCAR bestows the prestigious Myers Brothers Award, given to the person, corporation, or entity having the greatest positive impact on racing that year. The award was named for Bobby and Billy Myers, Chocolate's father and uncle, who were early pioneers and champions in the sport of NASCAR racing.
Now residing in Lexington, North Carolina, Chocolate is married to Caron Pappas Myers, a television/radio broadcaster in Winston Cup and regular contributor to many NASCAR racing publications. The couple has a 10-year-old daughter Alexi Nichole.
Myers remained with RCR when Kevin Harvick took over Dale Earnhardt's team in 2001, but moved to Robby Gordon's No. 31 Chevrolet in 2002 after two of the RCR teams swapped crew chiefs.
Myers remains employed at RCR as the safety director.
